You’ve decided to have a vasectomy and you’re doing your research. Most patients wish is to choose a method which is the least invasive form of birth control, with the shortest recovery period.

What is a No-Scalpel Vasectomy?

No scalpel vasectomy nyc p01The no-scalpel vasectomy is a safe procedure used to do a vasectomy through one
single puncture, instead of an incision. The whole procedure takes about 7 to 15 minutes to perform. Some patients will be given a mild sedative to relax. A local nerve block is given with a small needle to a tiny area to numb the region, and ranges from a barely feeling it to a small pinch. The no-scalpel vasectomy severs the vas deferens using the same method as a conventional vasectomy to prevent sperm from mixing with the semen during ejaculation. The no-scalpel vasectomy requires no
stitches or sutures.. You may be a little sore after the procedure, but recovery time is 40 to 50% quicker than it is with a conventional vasectomy.

After the Vasectomy

After the procedure you will be required to rest with no heavy lifting for 48 hours. Usually you can return to work within 1 day. Usually, sex can be resumed one week after the vasectomy. It is important to remember to use another form of birth control to prevent pregnancy, until your sperm count is zero about 10 to 13 ejaculations and after confirmation of 0 sperm on semen analysis.

Vasectomy as a Permanent Birth Control

Vasectomy is a permanent birth control method. Before you decide on one, be sure your partner and you do not want to have another child. Most important is that you (not your wife) do not want to father another child in the event of divorce or some family crisis. Reversal success is not guaranteed.
